At Chateau Petit Faurie de Soutard, we have a systemic approach based on the interactions between living beings and their environment. Since 2017, we have decided to manage the vineyard based on agroecology in order to fulfill the challenges of global warming, soil deterioration and the decrease of biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>\nTo do so, we work on two subjects: agroforestry and plant cover, with the aim to increase the carbon content in the soil. The research done proves that the increasing of the carbon in the soil is favourable for the structure and the microbiological life. We obtain less compacted soils, more drought resistance and new ecological balance favourable for the plant\u2019s health.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text]<\/div><\/div><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1638373793726{margin-top: 70px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″]Agroforestry…<\/h2>[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1642692686286{margin-top: 20px !important;}”]We have started to renew the vineyard from 2019 by uprooting few plots. Future plots will be planted with a density of 6 000 vines per hectare, in order to reduce the competition between them.<\/p>\n
By doing this, we can immediately convert those lands with the agroforestry concept. At Chateau Petit Faurie de Soutard, we already have planted 400 metres of hedges and 50 fruit trees. Trees have been planted in order to be in the middle of the future rows, to obtain an ecological continuum, necessary for bugs, birds and bats.
\nTrees species are endemic. Considering the advices of the Conservatoire V\u00e9g\u00e9tal d\u2019Aquitaine (Aquitaine botanical conservatory) and the soils analyses, we have selected the best places to plant them.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”1308″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1638373931738{margin-top: 60px !important;margin-bottom: 60px !important;}”][vc_column_text]Hedges and trees will manage the air flow. We suppose the shadows will have a positive impact on the heat waves and will bring freshness to the vineyard. We also wish the hedges could block the cold air we fear during springtime frosts.

We have planted different seeds mix with white clover, dwarf clover and subclover.

To understand and study this environmental diversity, we surround ourselves with experts.
\nIn our vineyard, we follow closely the soils and we do inventories of the wildlife.
